Week seven of the NFL's Monday night football schedule features an intriguing clash between two teams that finished runner-up's in their respective divisions last season - the Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars, at the Jaguars monster 84,000 capacity EverBank Field Stadium.

The Jacksonville Jaguars finished second behind the Indianapolis Colts in the race for the AFC South divisional title, while the Baltimore Ravens were runners-up to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the hunt for the AFC North division honors. The Jaguars looked to be making inroads into the Indianapolis Colts domination of AFC South, while the Ravens' regular-season record of 12-4 was on a par to that of the Steelers, and joint third best in the entire National Football League.

The Ravens v Jaguars Monday Night football game looks evenly matched and should be an absolute classic! The game will be screened live on ESPN, the action starts at 8:30 PM ET.

This will be the first encounter between these teams since December 2008 when Baltimore defeated Jacksonville 27-7. Overall, the Jaguars lead the Ravens 9-7 in a head-to-head dating back to 1996, although in recent years Baltimore have dominated this tie and hold an impressive 7-1 over Jacksonville in their eight encounters the turn of the millennium.

Few teams have dominated their division more so then the Indianapolis Colts in the American Football Conference South. During the last decade the Colts have won the AFC South division title no less than seven times and have failed to reach the playoffs only once since 1999 - in 2001.

Trying to take away that level of glory from that kind of team is a tough ask and yet that is the task entrusted to the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio for this season, and his team of young players, highlighted by promising rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert, one of their latest draft acquisitions, and regarded as one of the brightest new talents in the NFL.

Formed in 1995, the Jaguars got off to an auspicious start by claiming back to back AFC Central divisional honors in 1998 and 1999, although those remain their only titles in the NFL thus far. Since their inception, the Jaguars have made the playoffs six times, most recently in 2005 and 2007. Despite their brief history and lack of major honors, amazingly the Jaguars have winning records against some of the best teams in the NFL, including the Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Atlanta Falcons.

Last year they finished with an 8-8 record, yet had they won their final three games instead of losing them, it would have been them and not Indianapolis who took the AFC South title and made the playoffs. The jaguars were in their best form of the regular season and had won five out of their last six games, but a loss to the Colts started the three-game losing streak that finished their season on a whimper rather than a bang.

The Baltimore Ravens are considered by many to be one of the better teams currently playing in the NFL and a definite threat for Super Bowl glory this season. Like the Jaguars, the Ravens are relative newcomers to the National Football League, having been established in 1996.

Within just four years, and following their first ever playoff berth via a wildcard, the Ravens won the AFC conference championship and then followed that up with the Super Bowl itself, a stunning feat for such a new and inexperienced team. The win was no fluke – the Ravens defeated AFC top seeds the Tennessee Titans in the first round of playoff games, and the NFC number one seeds the New York Giants in the final en route to lifting the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Since then the Ravens have won the AFC North division in 2003 and 2006, and made the playoffs six times during the last decade, including he past three straight years, although that second AFC Conference championship final has eluded them, for now.

Have John Harbaugh's men enough quality in their team to achieve yet another successful season and maybe even challenge for the Super Bowl itself? Many experts would place them in the top six contenders alongside the likes of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots, the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last year the Ravens were one of the biggest success stories in the NFL regular season, finishing with an ultra impressive 12-4 record, and taking the scalps of the New York Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints along the way. The Ravens never suffered back-to-back losses, and entered the playoffs on a four-game winning streak. After eliminating Kansas City in the first playoff round, they were defeated by the Steelers in a rubber match at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field Stadium 31-24.

Baltimore will take some stopping in their pursuit of a second Super Bowl title this season, but their progress may well be derailed, at least temporarily, by a well organized Jaguars team playing in their own stadium. One thing is for certain, this game will be action-packed and not be for the faint hearted!
